How the Carbohydrate and Sugar Options System Works

Carbohydrates:

A certain amount of carbohydrates in grams is equal to a certain number of carbohydrate options.

  • Less than 5 grams of carbs = 0 options
  • 5-20 grams of carbs = 1 options
  • 21-40 grams of carbs = 2 options
  • 41-60 grams of carbs = 3 options

Sugar:

Sugar grams are counted 1-for-1.

C/S Options

Throughout this site you may see recipe and food nutritional information like “C/S = 2/3.”  In this example, it means that the intake value for the entire recipe or individual food is equivalent to 2 carb options and 3 sugar options.  Knowing these values will help you monitor your total daily intake of carbohydrates and sugars.  This is important when staying within your intake goals.

Carbohydrate and Sugar Intake Goals

For healthy and balanced eating habits and for weight management or weight loss Full Meal Deal recommends setting your maximum daily intake goal for carbohydrates to a total of 6 options and your maximum daily intake goal for sugar to 15 options.  For faster weight loss, you could set your C/S Options goal to 5/12.  Always check with your doctor first to discuss what is right for you.
